The importance of good informationThe importance of good information should not be underestimated. In fact, it is the first step in positioning your organization to continuously improve performance. There are many applications in the marketplace today that can help you do this.

I came across an Enterprise Apps Today article discussing what makes a business intelligence (BI) implementation successful and the 6 big mistakes to avoid. A few of my favorites were:

ignoring users’ BI needs,
trying to go it alone, and,
trying to save money by avoiding BI altogether.

What is the biggest opportunity you see in how organizations handle their data?

Most companies have made significant investments in equipment that automatically collects large volumes of data. The issue is not whether there is enough data, typically there is an overwhelming volume of data. The issue is that the relevant data is not easily accessible. Providing good information requires collecting data from the source, putting it in context and making it easily available so people can take informed action.
